A study on flexible dual-fuel and flexi combustion mode engine to mitigate NO, soot and unburned emissions

In the present study, an existing commercial light-duty automotive diesel engine is modified to a flexible dual-fuel (FDFE). The FDFE operates with different low and high reactivity dual fuel combinations under temperature combustion (LTC) mode using combined multipoint injection common rail direct systems. can smoothly transit between LTC conventional (CDC) mode. combines SI CI benefits stands as potential internal for future hybrid electric options. this was operated in flexi methanol/diesel, methanol/biodiesel, methanol/dimethyl ether (DME), methanol/polyoxymethylene dimethyl (PODE), (methanol + Isobutanol blends)/diesel PODE strategy at speed torque conditions. This approach improved brake thermal efficiency by 8%, decreased NO soot emissions more than 90% compared CDC improvement reduced CO2 engine, phasing energy input are maintained same investigate effects over neat Experimental study exergy analysis carried out assess technical suitability of engine. results proved that without relying on after- treatment systems fossil fuels, it possible reduce NO, soot, unburnt hydrocarbon, carbon monoxide from paving way extending life
